Jerry joined the Villanova community in 1961 and is a member of the Class of 1965. He wanted to follow in his sister’s footsteps and attend Penn State, but his mother had always heard about Villanova and wanted him to go there...
And, as the saying goes, “Mother knows best”. He was the first person from Forest City to attend Villanova. This started a trend that saw nine other Forest City Regional High School graduates become Villanova University alumni.
After graduating from Villanova, Jerry worked for Sears Roebuck Company for thirteen years. He was a Regional Credit Supervisor for the New York metropolitan area when he left Sears in 1978. He returned to his hometown where he became the President and CEO of a community bank. He guided the bank from two offices to thirteen in ten northeastern Pennsylvania communities. He also guided the formation of a 140 bed nursing facility and 36 bed personal care facility. He served as the managing partner of those facilities over 25 years. Jerry retired for a short time before returning to work as a financial planner for Ameriprise Financial.
Jerry serves as a Member of the Board and former Chairman of the Board and Finance Committee of the Allied Services Foundation. Allied Services is a renowned rehabilitation hospital and multi services health care facility in northeastern Pennsylvania. For 25 years Jerry served as President of the Kennedy Park Board in Forest City. This board had responsibility for improving the recreational facilities for the citizens of the surrounding communities. He has also served on the Susquehanna Housing & Development Authority, Boy Scouts of America Council and Board of Directors of the Independent Bankers of PA.
Jerry finally retired in 2015 to spend more time with his family and grandchildren. His passion is physical fitness and he enjoys his golf. He and his wife Kathleen, share their time between Jupiter, FL and the tiny, lakeside village of Union Dale, PA (Pop: 500). They have three grown sons
and three beautiful granddaughters; Lola (8), Harper (5 l/2) and Freya (4 months). They both enjoy traveling in the U.S. and in Europe on Viking Cruises. Kathy is happy by the water with a good book and enjoys entertaining family and friends at home.
Jerry knew Bob Capone from his early years at Villanova and was one of the first to join the Villanova Wildcat Club. He was a loyal contributor for all of its years and was one of the first to offer help to Kate Cellucci when she took over the newly reorganized Blue White Club.
In a June meeting with Kate and Joe Hare, Jerry stated he would like to pursue donations of stock he had acquired over the years that had a very low basis. This would enable him to make a donation to a great cause and gain a tax advantage at the same time. Jerry has served the Blue and White Club on the Scholarship Review Committee. He would like to share with all alumni what a fantastic experience it is to review the applications for scholarships.
“Once you do it you will never question how your donations are being used. They are going to incredible young people who are the future alumni of Villanova and will be the future leaders in their communities.”
If you would like to consider gifting ideas, contact Kate. She’ll have many helpful suggestions for you on ways to support the next generation of Villanova alumni.
